The United States mauled Cayman Islands 37-0 when play in the GT&T/Tropical Rhythm sponsored North American West Indies Rugby Association (NAWIRA), Under-18/19 Rugby World Cup Qualifier continued yesterday at the National Park.
Playing in extremely wet conditions, the US team recorded seven tries but were able to convert only one of them in their massive win over their opponents.
Registering tries for the defending NAWIRA champions were Simon Kinet (two), Nate Ebner, Hoseki Kofe, Scott Lavana, Jack Test and Kyle Toombs, while Hamesh Roberts scored the lone conversion.
Kinet opened the scoring very early in the first half after the US team made tremendous inroads into Cayman Islands’ 22 yards zone.
Using their power, height and weight to good advantage to push back the opposition’s scrum, the North Americans won a scrum approximately five yards from the try line and Kinet did well to touch down, but the resulting conversion by Roberts missed its target.
