In one of the more unusual school sports championships, a team from Saint Ignatius Catholic School triumphed in the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) School Sailing Championships at the Cayman Islands Sailing Club (CISC). Traditionally held at the culmination of the school year, the RBC School Sailing Championships enables teams from rival schools to compete against each other after a year of learning how to sail. RBC returned as the sponsor in 2006 after the event was postponed last year in the wake of Hurricane Ivan. Prior to the September 2004 hurricane, the RBC School Sailing Championships was one of the most exciting dates in the youth sports calendar in the Cayman Islands, and this year's event, held on 16 June, recaptured the unique spirit of past race days.

The Bahamas tourism in-dustry will have to go through revolutionary changes in the next decade to stay one step ahead of the competition. Two leading lights of the $680 billion global industry warned against complacency yesterday at the Small Island Development State Tourism Conference at the Wyndham Nassau Resort, and mapped out their visions of the future. John Issa, the SuperClubs Breezes company director and consultant, highlighted the threat that new super-size cruise liners will pose to the luxury goods sector here. Many cruise ships offer all-inclusive deals that give them the monopoly on the "cruise dollar". In fact, Mr Issa said, some "mega ships" had strip malls rivaling the size of Bay Street in downtown Nassau. Although nearly 75 per cent of tourism earnings come from cruise visitors, Mr Issa said focusing on stopover tourism is the way forward.
Cayman has paid a $376 million price for the PPM and UDP parties in four short years. Political parties have wrecked the other Caribbean Islands because of their near absolute power and Cayman will be the same if the parties are left unchecked. And political parties will continue to do so because of non-governmental knowledge. We believe it is harsh and not very conscionable to inflict taxes especially on the poorer Caymanians indirectly who are now trying to recover from Hurricane Ivan to justify a $32.5 million surplus, but again that is only our opinion. Where do we get off passing our opinions in the running of a non-sense Government in these days? Well, not very far, do we? There are few independents views mainly the partys view which may be heavily influenced by party members who are not elected legislators and who the public never voted in and apparently has a lot of influence in the running of the government.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., June 7 -- The way in which technology is integrated into new-vehicle design, particularly interior features and controls, is considered by consumers to be as important to quality as are defects and malfunctions, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Initial Quality Study(SM) (IQS) released today. The study is in its 20th year. The Initial Quality Study, which serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership, has been completely redesigned for 2006 to capture problems experienced by owners in two distinct categories -- quality of design and quality of production (defects and malfunctions). "New vehicles today are often packed with new technologies that unfortunately can be complicated and frustrating for the average consumer when their integration is not well executed," said Joe Ivers, executive director of quality and customer satisfaction research for J.D.
